October 16, 2015 | Capitol Title becomes one of the first to be awarded certification in ALTA Best Practices by leading national auditor…
Federal regulations now require that lenders and providers of real estate settlement services protect customer’s personal information and adopt practices that ensure proper and compliant handling of lenders’ and clients’ transactions and funds. In response to this development, The American Land Title Association (ALTA) has created the Best Practices framework to assist lenders and other real estate professionals in satisfying their responsibility to ensure that the settlement agents which handle their clients’ transactions provide a safe, secure, positive and compliant real estate settlement experience.
Certified by the best…
Capitol Title has taken the necessary steps to implement ALTA Best Practices and has received its Independent Certification of compliance from Security Compliance Associates, a nationally recognized leader in the provision of security assessments and compliance certifications for financial institutions.
Only a handful of title companies have received independent, third-party certification. There are many companies who claim to be “certified” in ALTA’s Best Practices, but most of those certifications are either self-proclaimed or provided by third parties that lack the credentials of an established compliance audit firm.
“The world of mortgage lending and title insurance is evolving, and our efforts on behalf of client and consumer alike are evolving as well,” said Andrew Levy, Esq. of Capitol Title. “Although we have always made the utmost efforts to protect our clients and the consumers, ALTA’s Best Practices offers a unique manner by which we can document and verify our efforts. The certification of Security Compliance Associates, the leading provider of such assurances, puts Capitol Title among the elite national settlement services firms when it comes to protecting NPI.”
Capitol Title has faithfully served clients throughout Maryland, the District of Columbia and Virginia for the past 42 years.
